The Great Debate: eBooks vs Physical Books | Infographic

Today I thought I'd do something a little bit different. A few days ago I realised that I have now been blogging for approximately six months, and in that time I don't feel like I have written or created any quality content that is particularly unique or sets me apart from every other book blog. I wanted to change that. For a while I'd been considering writing a post about the statistics as well as pros and cons of physical and digital reading, so I decided that I would present that information to you in an infographic!

Paper vs. digital reading is a somewhat exhausted debate. The digital world is continuing to grow, and will continue to exist and eBooks are here to stay simply because digital is. Ereading is on the rise but the question still remains: Which is better, Physical or Digital reading? The infographic below compares and contrasts the two, taking into account the influences each on readers, consumers, authors and publishers.

In no way is this post an attempt to persuade you which is better, it is just a useful tool for identifying the differences between the two forms and the advantages and disadvantages they both possess.

Please note: For some reason the image won't show on this post in high quality.

You may view the full infographic here.

I compiled what I felt to be the most significant information from a variety of online databases and sites. Though it may be quite controversial, I believe that eReading is a positive influence on society and allows literature to reach a wider audience. I do prefer my physical books though, and I will continue to purchase print books for as long as I shall live!

I'm incredibly intrigued by these statistics and I'm personally interested to gain some knowledge about the situation from some of the best qualified people: book bloggers! I'd love to hear your opinions on the matter and feedback is always appreciated! I want to know whether or not you think these kinds of posts are interesting, as well as whether or not I should make more like this.

Keep reading! (Be it digital or physical!)

  1. Maddie, this is amazing! I personally do a fair share of book eBooks and physical books but definitely prefer the latter. It's just that authentic experience, you know, that I really appreciate. Plus, I like getting sentimental about my books. The other day I just felt so nostalgic and being able to sit down and have a look at a couple of shelves housing books from when I was small just put time into perspective! It passes by so quickly O_O

  2. Aww, Thank you Jess! And I completely agree with you. Physical books make for a much more genuine and immersive experience and look pretty on shelves. But especially being a student, it's hard to be able to be buying books all the time so I also read quite alot of ebooks! Thanks for all the kind words! :)

  6. Enjoy We Were Liars! When I say 'enjoy' I mean 'be prepared to sit down with and not move for a couple of hours and then be a wreck when it's over!' ;)

Thanks for stopping by mine x

  7. I've actually read it already! And yes, I did have to take a few moments to myself and be an absolute wreck when I finished it. You're welcome! Thanks for all the kind words! :)

  8. I love physical books for sure! I find that eBooks always hurt my eyes after a while but they're prefect for when I don't want to wait to buy a novel. Also, I like physical books because they look amazing on my shelf and I love the feeling of getting new books! Great post, I really like the statistics and facts you put in there and the info-graphic looks so good. How do you do them?
