THE GIRLY GEEK IS TURNING ONE TODAY! (AND GIVING STUFF AWAY!)

Once upon a time in a land not too far away, a young bibliophile dreamed of having her very own place to discuss her love of the written word.

One year ago today, she made that dream come true.

On this very day last year, I launched The Girly Geek, a project I'd wanted to pursue for a while, but had only started working on three days prior. I had no idea what I was doing, (I still don't), but what I did know was that I loved books, and sometimes I felt I had nobody to share that love with. I sat at this very same desk, on this very same laptop and penned a post titled 'Why I Love Reading.' After umming and aahing for a fair few hours, I hit the little orange 'publish' button and thus, The Girly Geek was born.

A lot has unfolded in this past year, and while in my personal life there have been many tears, blogging has brought me nothing but smiles and laughter. Reading books, reading posts about books, talking about books and bonding with others about books are some things I'd never imagined would bring me so much joy, but they have. And I couldn't be more thankful.

Though, yes, The Girly Geek hasn't exactly sky-rocketed to success, that was never what I wanted. I wanted this: a place to share my thoughts, my reading, and someday, my writing. I wanted an opportunity to meet (online) new people and make wonderful friends. I got it, and I couldn't be happier. So here's to all of you, readers, writers, and ice-cream eaters, for making this past year pleasant!

To say thank you I thought I'd do a little something special, a giveaway! I know, I know, giveaways aren't all that special, but I've never done one, (It's hard when you're a student and have about $13 dollars to your name), and this seems like the perfect opportunity to give back.

This is open internationally, and the winner will get to select TWO books of their choice from the list below. The list is made up of books that either I've loved in the past year, or books that some of my friends have loved in this past year. I tried to mix it up a little so there are a variety of genres thrown in there.

The books include:

  • The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
  • Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger
  • The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel
  • All Fall Down by Ally Carter
  • The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
  • A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
  • The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider
  • Every Breath by Ellie Marney
  • The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder
  • Girl Online by Zoe Sugg
  • The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
  • The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
  • The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
  • Panic by Lauren Oliver

Thank you for all the love and laughter you've given me in the past year. I look forward to many more to come. Happy reading!
