As you're probably well aware (due to the insane amount of times I've tweeted/instagrammed about it), I created the Bookish Bingo Challenge at the beginning of this year as a fun twist on the average reading challenge that allows participants to not only read more, but more importantly to read more widely. If you have no idea what I'm babbling on about, then you can click right here for some information!
I can't even begin to express how shocked/excited/baffled I am by how well received the challenge has been. I am not lying when I tell you that I created the challenge on a whim, the NIGHT before the post went up. I basically sat in my room creating the graphic and thinking about how embarrassing it'd be if nobody showed interest in it, but it appears that hasn't been the case. I can't thank you all enough for the amount of kind comments and also participants there've been! It is especially great to see participants coming in from all forms of social media, including twitter and instagram. Its times like these I am incredibly proud to be a part of such a wonderful community.
Today I thought I'd give you guys a little bit of an update on my progress with the challenge, the tasks I've completed thus far into the year, and how I'm tackling the entire situation.
Here are the books I've read this far into 2015:
- Kiss Cam by Kiara London
- Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
- The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
- 1984 by George Orwell
- The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie E. Hall
- Love Hurts by Malorie Blackman
- Read a book set somewhere you want to visit - The Conspiracy of Us - A large part of this book takes place in Paris, France!
- Read a book published in the last month - The Conspiracy of Us was published on the 13th of January!
- Read a book with a main character your age - I believe the main characters in the Conspiracy of us, Kiss Cam and the Naturals were all seventeen years old. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
- Read a book with a kick-ass female heroine - Snow Like Ashes - Meira. That's all I'll say.
- Read a book that features supernatural powers - Snow Like Ashes - The conduits held powers!
- Read a book written by someone under 30 - Kiss Cam - I believe the author is eighteen?
- Read a book you found out about on GoodReads - The Naturals
- Read a modern classic - 1984
- Read a book with a LGBT main character - Love Hurts
The other day I received the following tweet:
Colored my 1st box on my #bookishbingochallenge board for reading "The Rithmatist" by @BrandSanderson @the_girlygeek pic.twitter.com/IrZUdfQVgE
— Helen Park (@exhelentreads) January 18, 2015
I had totally forgot about printing my bingo card out! As soon as I saw this tweet from Helen, I clicked print and stuck it up on my wall. I'm glad I did, because I think it looks rather cute.
I'm looking forward to continuing with the challenge, especially as the squares that remain are a little bit trickier. A few of them will definitely be pushing me out of my comfort zone, but I'm all for wider reading.
If you're participating in the challenge: how are you finding it? Which challenges have you completed and by reading which books? Please let me know! I am a very curious creature.
Good luck, have fun and happy reading!
I haven't printed off the chart, but I'm using a pic-editor thingy on my ipad to cross off the squares.
ReplyDeleteSo far, I've crossed off 8 squares. I think that I'm going really slowly...then I remember that it's a year-long challenge, which basically means that 4 challenges crossed off per month would finish it. So I'm flying ahead.
You are too from the looks of it :)
You are doing good! I still need to print bing card out! Crossing boxes out will be fun :) And this reminds me that I still need to write blog post about me participating in this challenge. I was so busy in January that I totally forgot :/
ReplyDeleteThis is such a tough challenge. You are off to a wonderful start!
